Probably because of that whole "needing a code to make the account." I do like the 100+ icon slots without having to pay. Wish LJ would bump it from 15 to 20 or something.
Not having actually looked at the site, I don't know entirely what people in general like (though I could doubtless look up why one of my friends specifically likes it fairly quickly). But I think a part of the reason this Livejournal clone in particular is getting a lot of attention is because there are a large number of people working on it who were a part of Livejournal before the change in management.
I can understand wanting to screw off LJ. The new management team kind of sucks. I want more than 15 icons for an account if I have to deal with advertisements that bog down my ram.
Wheras I have to remind myself to use more than a few icons here, so I'm fairly neutral on screwing LJ. But, I must admit, more iconspace if/when I get back into RP would be nice. I've gotten used to 15 icons, so it doesn't seem like such an amazing amount of space anymore like back when they went from 3 (I think? my memory is bad) to 6 to 15.
15 is nice and all, but it's not a good trade off for those annoying adds. I can understand needing the adds from a business point of view? But come on. At least give us 20 icons. Then bump paid up to 40.

That would be nice. I'm sure it'll happen someday, since they've been slowly raising the number of icons. They probably felt going up to 15 was a big enough leap to last us a while.

Well, that would be hindered by the fact that the paid account offers more benefits than just the icons (for all that most people don't care about a lot of them). I mean, we could assume that each icon costs the same and judge from the #-of-extra-icons/$10 of the userpic increase alone, but I imagine it's not a linear relation.
